May 2021

The end of school is just right around the corner. We only have 18 days left of school. The boys and girls are busy practicing for the End of the Year Ceremony, reading stories, learning about present, past, and future verbs, writing many things in their journals, practicing reciting and writing their sight words on their white boards, partner reading stories in their student readers, working on addition and subtraction equations, counting by 2's up to 20 with even and odd numbers, learning and finding every day objects that represent 2D and 3D objects, and learning about Jesus as our helper and teacher. The students colored beautiful pictures for our Mary bulletin board and created butterflies and caterpillars for our second bulletin board for spring. They have also enjoyed playing math and reading games with dice. We started doing Show-N-Tell at the end of the day before prayers for the students who would like to share important objects from home or share a special story. This is a favorite activity for many of the students.

**I updated the sight word list, I added 16 more words. The words are ( away, find, her, just, must, put, saw, say, soon, take, then, there, they, was, when, who). The students and I added a few more words on May 7th and we are up to 95 words. Wow!

We have our funrun.com fundraising during the next two weeks. If you are able to make pledges or have family or friends who can pledge our school will be most appreciative. Our goal is $10,000. I will be sending home an email each night with information or challenges for the school. We are working on a name for our class and making a class flag in the next couple of days. Each day the students watch a video about a character lesson and how they can help others. We are all excited about doing our part. I will keep you updated on how much money is pledged for our class. There will be incentives as well to keep working towards our goal. We thank all of the parents, family members, and friends for helping us in this wonderful fundraiser.

We will have our May Crowning on May 13th which is also Ascension Thursday. Grades kindergarten through fourth will participate in this special activity at the front of the school. The older students will go to the Grotto and crown the statue of Mary that is there.

Our End of the Year Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st at 10:00 am. I will send a zoom link closer to the date. Please send your child to school at the regular time. We will have an early dismissal for kindergarten this day. The students will need to be picked up at 11:30 am. Mrs. Lauer and I will have a special party for the students after the zoom part of the ceremony. We are looking forward to sharing with all of the parents a small glimpse into some of the songs and poems we learned this year.

Thank you again for sending in so many donations for snacks, forks, spoons, and paper supplies that we needed through out the year. We could  not have done it with out the help and generosity of all of the wonderful kindergarten parents. All of you are in our daily thoughts and prayers.

Over the summer please have your child continue to practice their sight words, practice phonemes and fluency when reading stories, read as many books as possible, practice writing sentences, be creative and write stories, practice addition and subtraction facts up to 10, practice tying their shoes, addresses, and phone numbers. During the summer student's tend to lose some of what they learned during the school year so it is imperative that they continue to practice the above skills over the summer. Practice books can be found at Walmart, Target, Barnes and Nobel or the Summer Solutions that the parents can buy through the school.

God bless all of you and thank you again for all of your love, support, prayers, kindness, and generosity that you showed Mrs. Lauer and myself. It was a true blessing and honor to teach your "little angels"!
